Newest Originals
You may notice that my work often takes off in new, unpredictable directions. An artist my age is usually expected to settle down into a recognizable style and subject matter. Well....so be it. I've been given an ability to see, ponder, and then visually interpret and create. If one line of expression leads to another, and then another, I consider that a God-given gift. Why argue with God?
Special Collections

Spring Blush, End of Brush Mountain
Oil on canvas (plein air) 24" by 30" 2008
$1600

The Bend in the Road
(#3 in the Tapestries of Nature series)
Acrylic on canvas 30" by 30" 2008
$2000
The third in a series of landscape explorations done in a new medium and textural
approach, which I call Tapestries of Nature. Using acrylics, and applying the paint with a wide variety
of tools, allows an impressionistic capturing of light and texture that is quite different from my usual
softer approach in oils. Each has its place, depending on the elements of the scene that most catch my eye.
This series is painted on deep stretched canvas, and the standard frame is a beautifully finished narrow
walnut floater frame.

Do you have a business with a budget for office decorating? Why not consider buying original art instead of reproductions to enhance your public spaces and executive offices? Because of the high cost of properly framing reproductions behind glass, you will find that my original oils and acrylics are often not much more expensive, and you will be investing in something with more intrinsic long-term value. Navajo Girl With a Silver Earring
Oil on canvas panel 20" by 16", 2006
SOLD
Believe it or not, the similarities between this piece and Vermeer's "Girl With a
Pearl Earring" never occured to me as I photographed Michelle or even as I began
sketching out the piece on the canvas. It took my wife mentioning it to make me look
up an image of that famous painting before I saw the striking parallels. When I did, my
mouth nearly fell open. The pose, the look on her face, headcovering, and even the
prominent piece of jewelry in her ear, evrything was there. Some things are just meant to
happen, so I finished the piece as I had originally intended it.

Crickets and Katydids
Oil on canvas panel 18" by 24", 2006
SOLD
Painted largely from memory the day after an evening walk near my house. I liked the fading light over the meadow,
so I carefully studied the scene to plant it in my mind's eye and scratched a few notes on a scrap of paper from my pocket.
The fact that I've walked this route hundreds of times made it far easier to recall details than would have been possible
in an unfamiliar setting.

Watering Hole
Oil on panel 18" by 24", 2006
SOLD
My biggest challenge in this piece was to use bold color and brushwork to create visual interest in a
basically green pasture field. The result is almost pointilistic. The increasing color intensity, contrast, and size
of brush strokes toward the foreground helps establish a sense of depth.
Accepted for AIS National Juried Show, May 2007, Chicago
