This piece is an experimental departure for me, but was a blast to do. The basic painting was created by quickly painting the raw essence of the animal in thick acrylic colors on a panel, then placing a canvas panel against the initial painting and pounding it tight against before lifting it off, transferring some of the paint to the second panel. I did this several times until I got
the effect I was after. The rest was a matter of adding touches and tints here and there by brush.
I chose this unorthodox (for me) approach because I wanted to capture mass, form, and energetic color; and avoid getting bogged down in unnecessary detail.
I like the result and expect to do more like this in the future, including some larger pieces. |
