Currently Available Art - Wildlife

The pieces shown below are, as much as I am able to keep up, currently available. They are generally at my home gallery, The Green Drake Gallery and Arts Center, in Millheim, Pennsylvania. They can be seen in person there during regular hours or by appointment, and I am also able to ship directly to you. Please get in touch by email <karlericleitzel@gmail.com> or phone (814-422-8461) to inquire about a purchase. I also welcome commissions to paint specific subjects to meet your needs. Most of my available work is done in standard sizes to allow easy switching of frames, usually without changing the price. Click on the image for a closeup view. Giclee on canvas prints in very limited editions are available for a few of the large pieces, as noted.

I am also available to speak to your group and do a demo of how I paint wildlife, either at the Green Drake or at your location. Get in touch for details.

Songbirds and Raptors

Blach-throated Green Warbler painting by Karl Eric Leitzel

Black-throated Green Warbler
Oils on canvas panel, 8x10 inches, 2014
$300 framed

I started doing these small paintings of warblers in the spring of 2014 as warbler season came on and I was having fun seeing how many I could spot in our woods in central Pennsylvania. They've proven popular and tend to sell quickly. If you are interested in a painting of a particular species, or even a matched grouping of several, get in touch!

Painting of Black-capped Chickadee by Karl Eric Leitzel

Black-capped Chickadee in Snow
Acrylics on canvas panel, 8x10 inches, 2014
$300 framed SOLD

Chickadees have a great attitude. If I were not a human being,
I would want to be a chickadee!

PAinting of Black-caped Chickadee by Karl Eric Leitzel

Red-winged Blackbird painting by Karl Eric Leitzel

Red-winged Blackbird and Cattails
Oils on canvas panel, 12x12 inches, 2014
$450 framed

When I'm not painting directly from life, I like to work from my own photo references whenever possible, as this is an important part of the total creative process. In this case, though, my wife, Linda, got some nice photos of red-winged blackbirds that I was happy to paint from.

Painting of Kestrel by Karl Eric Leitzel

Kestrel
Oils on canvas panel, 10x8 inches
$350 framed (deluxe frame)

The kestrel is a beautiful little hawk that we often see perched on the wires along the road, often with a just-caught mouse or vole.

Great Egret painting by Karl Eric Leitzel

Great Egret in the Light
Acrylics on canvas, 36x18 inches, 2014
$2000 framed (24x12 inch giclees available)

This series of egret paintings followed a long weekend staying in Chincoteague, Virginia and spending a lot of time photographing just across the bridge on Assateague Island. The opportunities there to see egrets and other wading birds in a beautiful and protected setting must be among the best in the world.

Takeoff, Great Egret
Oils on canvas, 20x20 inches, 2014

This one isn't as dramatically lit as those with strong backlighting, but I like the serene feel of the egret lifting off over the marsh.

Mammals

Whitetail deer in snow painting by Karl Eric Leitzel

Three Does in Early Spring Snow, Whitetail Deer
Acrylics on canvas panel, 12x24 inches
$1100 framed

These does in an early April snow already have their redder summer coat on, giving them a warmer look than the usual winter grey-brown.

Buffalo bison painting by Karl Eric Leitzel

Buffalo Dreams #2
Acrylics on canvas panel, 12x12 inches
$450 framed

This bison was painted with an unusual technique of transferring thickly applied paint from one canvas to another (squishing them together) to create the textured basic form of the bison head, and then adding just enough detail to bring out things like the eye and horn.

Bison in the Light
Acrylics on canvas, 12x24 inches
$1100 framed

I always use acrylics for this intense and textured pointillistic technique. The fast drying of the acrylics allows layer after layer to be applied without muddying.

Acrylics on canvas panel, 8x8 inches
$240 framed
