Rolling Fields in June (plein Air)

Painted along upper Brush Valley Road in Centre County, Pennsylvania. The slanted early morning light on the distant barn first caught my eye, so I set up my easel to capture the scene before the sun rose too high.

Wild Elderberry Wine
Oil on canvas panel 8" by 10", 2007
SOLD
My first serious attempt at painting glass. I used some of my own homemade elderberry wine as my model, and celebrated the completion of the piece by savoring the subject of my efforts. Painting the glass and liquid proved to be less difficult than I expected. Any subject being painted is, after all, a combination of shape and color. So, one is not truly creating transparent glass, but rather, the illusion of it. Once the esthetics of how to frame the subject to best advantage are decided, the trick is in accurate observation, combined with the technical ability to get the paint to do what you want.
